Light it Up. & Enjoy.

Our candles are made with 100% natural soy wax. That’s where the magic happens.

WHY DO WE USE SOY WAX FOR OUR CANDLES?

FORTUNE TELLER CANDLE CO. uses 100% natural soy wax for all of our candles. Soy wax is made from soybeans (we love supporting fellow Iowans) and is considered a vegan product. There are many benefits from using soy wax. The biggest benefit, in our opinion, is that it’s “clean burning”. When lighting a Fortune Teller candle, you aren’t releasing harmful or toxic chemicals into the air. Other wax options, like paraffin (which many candles are made from), does release harmful chemicals.

We love our natural soy wax. We love the characteristics it brings to our candles. We are proud to be clean burning.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CANDLE

How to store it.

Our candles are poured in candle specific vessels for long-lasting preservation of the natural soy wax and essential oils. To best care for your candle, always store it at room temperature. Keep your candle sitting on a flat surface at all times. Between burning, let all of the smoke (after blowing out the flame) leave the jar completely for best fragrance and throw results.

How to light it.

Our 9 oz. candles have approx. 20 hours of burn time & will deliver strong throw and fragrance results in smaller rooms (bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, etc). Our 16 oz. candles have approx. 30 hours of burn time & are perfect for larger rooms & open spaces. Make sure to remove any excess burnt wick before lighting and always keep your candle in sight with an open flame.

How to dispose it.

Knowing when to dispose of your candle will prevent the glass jar from cracking and other hazards or messes taking place. Always disgard your candle once the remaining wax reaches around 1/2” deep. HOWEVER, reusing your candle jar is highly encouraged - you can spoon out excess wax, wipe clean and soak / scrub off the label for a perfect, recycled vessel.

NATURAL SOY WAX CHARACTERISTICS

Frosting.

You may notice a white chalky coating that looks like little bubbles on the tops and sides of the soy wax. “Frosting” is a byproduct of natural wax and is caused by the growth of tiny crystals. Soy wax will frost over time and does not affect the way your candle burns or the fragrance that your candle gives off.

Wet Spots.

You may notice the appearance of wet spots on the side of your candle. Not to worry, this is purely cosmetic. “Wet spots” are caused by the wax cooling faster in some areas than others. Our candles are hand poured in small batches by a consistent and measured practice. Even the priciest of candles can have wet spots. We promise your candle will still light wonderfully and smell moody and romantic.

Cracking.

When you first receive your candle from Fortune Teller Candle Co. you may notice a very thin crack in the form of a circle around the wick. This is caused by a combination of the wax shrinking as it cools and tiny air bubbles being stuck at the bottom of the jar. After the wax hardens, it sinks ever so slightly to the bottom of the jar (where the bubbles used to be). Cracking does not effect the burn or fragrance throw of your candle what-so-ever.

Rough Tops & Pitting.

The appearance of rough, bumpy & pitting tops after burning your candle is caused by the hot wax in the melting pool cooling and solidifying at an inconsistent rate. This is a feature of soy wax and does not effect the next burn or fragrance of your candle. If anything, this is reassurance that your candle is made of 100% natural soy wax and essential oils.

Layering.

After burning your candle once or twice, you may notice a “layering” appearance of your wax. It may appear as… wax, “frosting” (explained above) and wax. When your candle cools, the melted wax that is furthest from the wick will cool first and will cool down the fastest. If it cools quick enough it may cause frosting. The wax closest to the wick will cool slowest and re-set to a seamless appearance. Layering does not effect the burn or fragrance throw of your candle and frosting is a natural occurance of soy wax.
